Accidentally took the exam paper and answer sheet home
Hey everyone, I’m currently panicking so hard right now and really need some advice or past experiences😭😭.
Today I finished the exam earlier than the exam bell ring. So I just told TA I wanted to leave earlier and at the moment my brain completely short-circuited, I was super overwhelmed and excited at the same time, and while packing up my stationary and scrap paper, I sub-consciously shoved the actual question paper AND my answer script into my backpack and walked out. Cause at the moment I just thought I need to pack all the stuffs on the desk then I can go back home and sleep.. to prepare for the exam I only slept for 4 hours per day..I know this sounds so stupid but I completely didn’t mean it.
So I just went on with my day take the MTR and went back home.
Then on my way back, I got a high-importance email from the Examinations Office saying they tried to call me and that I had removed exam materials without permission.
As soon as I read it and found the exam sheet in my backpack 😭😭,I sprinted back to the exam office counter, returned everything completely untouched, and submitted a handwritten explanation letter. I also followed up with an email attaching a detailed timeline of my afternoon backed up by time-stamped screenshots (I took many selfies and pictures along the way back home… cause I was too excited for the semester to end. And also some chats with my mum and friends discussing the summer plans)to prove that I was just going about normal post-exam activities and literally had zero window or intention to cheat/alter my answers.
The exam office told me that the case is now being forwarded to the Chief Examiner for a final decision.
I am absolutely terrified. I’ve never done anything like this before. Has anyone ever experienced this or seen a similar case? Is there a chance they will give me a zero for the course, or will it most likely be a warning/minor grade deduction?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.
