I am working on creating a map for my new fantasy world. I have the landmass created, but I do not know where to go from here. Do I place the rivers or the mountains first? Where does the desert go in relation to the mountains? How much of the landscape should I have mapped out before adding the settlements? I am very new to this so I don't know what parts of the map I have to get down in what order so any help would be appreciated.
