Did you go back and forth before picking a ducted range hood?

We've been renovating our kitchen for like four months now and I still can't make up my mind about the hood, we've got an exterior wall right behind where the range would go, so ducting outside seems doable, but then I started looking at island layouts and now I'm second-guessing that too

If you went ducted, are you happy with it? I like the idea of sending the cooking air outside, I'm just hung up on planning a duct route before we're completely sure where everything belongs

Ductless sounds more flexible, but then we've got filters to think about and I don't know whether we'd be happy with it for the way we cook, did anyone regret their choice once they were living with it?

Are ductless range hoods actually effective or just hiding grease around the inside?

We can't vent outside, apartment building, old construction, no option to run ductwork so ductless is the only type of range hood we can use I cook a lot of high-heat stuff, searing, stir frying, garlic and onions. Everything I've read makes it sound like recirculating hoods are basically decorative, but then other people say the newer ones with better filters are good for the job. I'm willing to spend some real money if it genuinely works, what has actually worked for people who cook every day and can't duct outside?
