Middle School Appropriate Books (Advice)

I am going to be teaching Middle School this year after four years of High School. I wanted some suggestions for books to teach to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I already have the following penciled in:

6th grade- The Giver

7th grade- The Outsiders, Treasure Island

8th grade- Call of the Wild, Animal Farm

Please feel free to let me know if any of these books may not be "age appropriate."

Looking for Running/Book Clubs

I am a 26-year-old male. I spent my entire childhood in Cleveland but 7 out of 8 adult years in Cincinnati. I am returning home. I want to make new friends in addition to the ones I already have. I love running, and I am an English teacher. What are some good running and/or book clubs in the area? I am a sucker for the "classics," but I will read just about anything. With regards to the running, I would love a club where I can grab a drink or a cup of coffee afterwards.

I am also single, so perhaps I may meet someone that way lol.

My principal told me today that he wasn't renewing my contract due to classroom management. I asked him why I wasn't notified throughout the year that this was an issue or given a peformance improvement plan. He says that he "wants to go in a different direction." This is my fourth year of teaching.

How do you cope with this? I am going to move back home until I get another teaching job. I am crushed. I accept the result, as I do not want to work at a place that doesn't want me.

I would love to hear stories of those who dealt with non-renewal and found another teaching job afterward. Is it possible to get another teaching job? I have always percieved it as a career ender.

My top concern right now is getting employment for 2026-2027. If anyone can provide advice, it would be appreciated.

I have a relatively busy job. People told me to drink gatorade, fruit juice, etc. I am not normally strict about nutrition, but I can’t help but wonder about the sugar content. Do any of you use a good amount of liquids to hit your carb goal? Is the sugar intake something that will come back to bite?
