Sudden increase in dangerous behavior at Foothill+Arastradero+Manuela intersection

At the Foothill and Arastradero intersection there’s a little secondary intersection where an exit from Foothill leads to a stop sign where you can then cross Arastradero and get on Manuela Ave when Arastradero is clear. The area in front of the stop sign is a Keep Clear so you can cross it when the light on Arastradero is red (if people respect the Keep Clear).

Recently I have seen several people on bikes and scooters who decide to run the stop sign and go straight across Arastradero while the Arastradero light is green and traffic is moving. This means people on Arastradero have to brake by surprise to avoid hitting people who come out in front of them from the side at fairly high speed and it seems like soon either someone on a bike or scooter will get hit from the side or someone in a car on Arastradero will get rear ended.

After years of driving and biking through this intersection and never seeing this particular problem (but seeing plenty of confusion with Miranda Ave on the other side) I’ve now seen people do this on three separate days in the last few weeks. I don’t think it’s Gunn high school kids because two of these days were weekends.

Has anyone else seen this happening? Anyone know if something changed recently to cause the increase in dangerous behavior?
