My Concerns with GTLive

A post by Lopsided_Patient6563 was released 4 days ago as of writing this, it detailed how they had felt like GTLive was “in a bad era”. I have been feeling like something had changed with GTLive for quite a while now, but I was never able to put into words why I felt this way. But after seeing all the comments of people expressing similar feelings and that something had changed with GTLive, it encouraged me to write this post. My goal for this post is to give feedback and create discussions around this, so that they can hopefully improve in the future.

New Ideas:

Since Ash stepped in as host, GTLive has changed a lot. She brought many great and unique ideas to the channel, like multiple lives a week, the Let’s Solve series, and the Witty Banter series, just to name a few. Lately, though, I feel like the channel has stagnated. There have not been many new ideas introduced for quite a while. Recently, Ash and Fish have talked about potentially doing some IRL content, which I think could be a great step in the right direction.

Their Choice of Games:

The games and videos GTLive has chosen to play and react to have pivoted dramatically over the past 6 months. Horror, in particular, has been noticeably absent from the channel for long periods of time. And when we do get horror games they are extremely obscure, or lacking in quality. This often leaves me confused on why certain games were chosen. The channel has seemingly moved away from horror, or content with theory potential, towards more general content. About a month ago they introduced Scary Game Friday, so there is hope this will change, but nothing is certain.

The Absence of the Not-Live Format:

Another problem is how the Not-Live format has been seemingly abandoned. The last one we got was over 4 months ago. I do know this can come down to personal preference between live and Not-Live, but I still do have a bit to add. Growing and expanding on both YouTube and Twitch by only live streaming is incredibly difficult. YouTube rarely recommends live streams to new people, and Twitch does not push smaller channels on their platform (GTLive following on Twitch is relatively small). So the main way new people can find out about GTLive is through them getting recommended Not-Lives. But since GTLive has mostly abandoned that format, growth of the channel has seemingly slowed significantly.

Try to Finish Games:

One of the biggest issues I believe GTLive has been having, is that they don't finish the majority of the games they play. I know Ash is tired of hearing that, but it is a major issue. GTLive is a theorist channel, one of the things that makes GTLive unique from all the other channels out there, is how we get to see Ash theorize and her live thought process. This is something that has been, for the most part, missing from the channel for a while now. One of the biggest contributors to this is them not finishing games. You cannot really theorize about a game, live, if you do not intend to finish it.

Why Does This Matter:

It is clear that something has changed with GTLive, and many people, including myself, have noticed. Comparing viewership from March of 2025, to March of 2026, it appears to have dropped roughly 56%. I fear that if something does not change, it will continue to drop. I deeply love GTLive and that is the last thing I want to see happen.

Notes:

  1. If you have anything to add to this topic, please do. I am not perfect, and nor is this post, so there are probably many things I missed. If we want to see change, the best thing we can do is offer feedback.
  2. The goal of this post is to offer feedback and create discussions, and is not in any way meant to be “hating” on GTLive. I genuinely love this channel and community.
  3. Maybe it is not my place to talk about this, genuinely, I'm not sure. But, as I have said many times, I love GTLive and want to do everything I can to make sure it succeeds.

Thank you for taking the time to read this!
