They try to turn the captive Whisperer by feeding him and showing what life can be like with civilization. Saddiq is suffering from PTSD after the barn massacre and the Whisperer triggers him, so Dante treats the wounded prisoner instead. The Whisperer dies from being poisoned with hemlock and when Saddiq questions Dante, Dante says Saddiq packed the bag and he(Dante) mistook it for another herbal medicine.
Why on earth do they even have hemlock to begin with? The little medicinal properties it holds are far outweighed by it's toxicity, and why aren't their more toxic locked lmedicines locked in a special cabinet?
