Popular Band, High Demand

A lot of people upset today about not getting in to see the boys in The Shoe… and I get it. But can we stop for a second and think about a couple things?

  1. They freaking did it! They effectively sold out the 5th largest stadium in the world in about an hour (I know general sale goes live Friday with a few more tickets, but the point stands).

  2. The fact that some people missed out on tickets wasn’t JUST because of scalpers. Tens of thousands of actual fans of the band are going to be packing out The Shoe on October 17 because they are just that big of a deal.

  3. Re-sale prices are so high BECAUSE of the demand for these guys and their show. Let’s celebrate that!

Final thought: yes, I think there are better ways to do ticket sales for events like this, but ultimately artists are locked to contracts with labels, which are locked to contracts with venues, which are locked with contracts to ticketing sites. I think the courts are working on reducing the negative effects of Ticketmaster on the general public, but it will take time. Don’t just blame Tyler and Josh, or even Ohio State staff for any qualms you had from today.
