In my current story, there is 2 teams, who we will call Team A and Team B. Both Team A and Team B have the most powerful characters in the verse. Now I encounter I problem. I want to limit the amount of characters in Team A or Team B, meaning I cant kill either of them off on a whim. But now, say I want to show a fight between a character in A and a person thats relatively close to their power, I'm cooked. If I invent a new character thats too powerful, it doesn't make sense why either team wouldn't hire them. If they're too weak, then theres no point in mentioning them. Has anyone encountered a similar problem, and if so, how do you deal with it? (note that this is a fantasy based world with magic, so maybe that helps)
