I’m in a major US city and about to be fully licensed (my exam is in June). I have been a therapist for the last three years.

When I first graduated in 2023, I feel like I was able to secure multiple interviews and I heard back from different practices quickly. Even if I wasn’t the right fit for every role I applied for, I was able to connect with organizations and felt like I understood why I was not selected for a role.

Recently, I have decided that it’s time to find a new position after spending a couple of years in community mental health. I don’t think my skills have deteriorated or anything; I consistently get good feedback from clients and my supervisor at work, and I really value professional development so I try to learn as much as I can when I have time.

In my job search I have applied to 10+ jobs at this point and have not heard back from most, even with follow up emails. In the one phone screening I had, I got a good feeling from their HR coordinator and thought I would be offered a full interview, but just found out they are moving on with other candidates. I’m not sure if there’s something I am doing wrong, if my expectations for job searching are unrealistic, or if the market is just really competitive right now. The rejection might be getting to me a bit, but if anyone has feedback or insight about being a desirable candidate, it would be greatly appreciated.
