Hey everyone,

I’m a BTech CS student, F (6th sem) from a private college. I don’t really have a strong “passion” for any specific field. I’m mainly focused on getting into a stable, high-paying career and I’m willing to put in the work for it.

My brother is a DevOps engineer and has been encouraging me to follow that path. While exploring options, I also spoke to a relative (with -23 years in the oil & gas industry). He has a pretty unique schedule (25 days on, 25 days off) with great pay, which got me curious.

He connected me with a couple of people who introduced me to PLC, SCADA, and OT cybersecurity. This space is completely new to me, but from what I’ve read, it seems stable and in demand.

Now I’m confused about what to pursue seriously.

- Is this field (PLC/SCADA/OT security) actually worth getting into in 2026+?

- How does it compare to something like DevOps in terms of growth, pay, and work-life balance?

- What should I try first to figure out if it’s a good fit?

Would really appreciate any advice or real-world insights from people in these fields.

Thanks!
