Just not worth it

I confess I’m a frontline supervisor, you the target of distrust and hate lol
I’m in the envious position of being inline for an upper management position in the near future.
Everyone wants me to go for it. All of my staff and my family are pushing me to jump on it.
My problem is I don’t see it is worth the effort for the following reasons:

  1. I’ve been in this position for close to 10 years and I have not seen a single improvement over that time. Sure we get asked all the time what we would love to see and at best we get an agreement but that is about it
  2. I work in IT and my Agency is a component of DHS, we do not get any training remotely beneficial to our job. So if I jump on this opportunity, there won’t be any real beneficial training.
  3. The current manager in this position is about as hard working and caring you can expect. All that has done is left her rushing to retire.
  4. My gut is telling me I would be better off looking into another job in either another department or new Agency altogether.
Sad but true a promotion that I would have killed for 6 years ago means nothing today.
