I have a 2.5 year old working line GSD. Overall he's well behaved but I'm having issues with him being constant on 1000. He's doing backflips off the bed at 5am (not exaggerating) I guess I need advice on how to train calm/off switch. We have a pretty solid routine but I think that may be over stimulating him too much.
He gets amped up easily over threshold and doesn't k know what to do so he's just constantly pacing, doing backflips etc. our current routine - 6-6:30 am potty + fetch with commands/rules, 6:30-6:45 lay on couch with frozen kong, breakfast, then he chills 7-7:30
while I get ready (he will lay on the couch and look out the window) then I leave him for work and I'll let him out to potty at lunch. Come home and repeat the routine.
l've had several trainers over the years all with different opinions - 1. "He's a lot" 2. "It's just his breed he's meant to be like this" 3. "He needs anxiety medication"
We used to live in a Chicago high rise and he was scared of outside so we would do very early morning
"walks" on the weekends when it was quiet. We would do an early morning potty, back upstairs to play for a little in our apartment, he'd eat breakfast and then settle while I worked from home. He never had the
"always on always overstimulated always doing backflips" vibe. But now that we've moved to the suburbs in a house with a a backyard I think I've become too lax on his structure which is why he's being so neurotic? He was crated every time I left the house, never free roam. Our current house he comes and goes in his crate and he can have the whole house while I'm gone. This is my first dog (ever I know bold choice) and ive done a lot of research!! I'll gladly take any tips. Please!!!
