Wondering about if a second opinion would be helpful
Hi there, just after some opinions or advice on next steps for my child. A brief relevant history; history of coughs and colds as younger child, moderate conductive hearing loss and grommets 2 years ago. Child is now 8. Possibly neurodivergent, just the best little kid ever. No glue ear etc since grommets.
My child consistently asks for repetitions and mishears things, we've really advocated for them with following up and chasing for reviews.
Failed audiology tests one month ago - suggested carharts notch in one ear, mild-moderate loss in the other and a view for a CT scan to see what is happening with the bones. We were told this was unusual and concerning and child was put down for hearing aids. I asked about reliability and was reassured that the assessments were detailed, thorough and reliable. Moulds then taken a couple of weeks after. I felt relieved that my kid would be getting help.
Then we have had the appointment for having the aids fitted but the tests today were within normal limits... Apart from mishearing some speech sounds. So no hearing aids.
Please don't misunderstand me; I am happy that things don't seem so concerning anymore. But I am shocked as we had prepared for kiddo getting aids and I finally felt they would be getting help. I really feel that they miss out on so much. The audiologist today suggested it may be related to neurodivergence.
Is it worth me getting a second opinion? Or do I just accept today's outcome?
