my company mandated 3 days in office. i go in 1. nobody has said anything in 14 months.
39M san diego. sales ops at a b2b SaaS. wife teaches school, 2 kids in middle school. march 2025 we got the 3-day office mandate email. i was sales ops at the time. i kept being sales ops. nothing in my work output changed. the difference was where i was for 2 of those 5 weekdays. i go in tuesdays. surfing-friendly tuesdays. coast clear by 7am, in the office by 9, out by 4 for school pickup. i wave at the head of people once in a while. monday wednesday thursday friday i am in encinitas in my garage office with the door cracked open for the dog. what i expected. a manager email. a calendar invite about my attendance. an HR conversation. what happened. nothing. my work shipped. my reports were on time. my numbers were good in q2 and q3. q4 i got a raise. i think the mandate was designed for people who needed permission to work in the office. i did not need permission. i needed nobody to look at me. 14 months in. the surfboard rack i built for my garage is more useful than the badge i still have.
