Reposting - update - I've removed the stems in water yesterday 05/06 but leaves are still yellowing and drooping and the ends have calloused over. I still haven't removed the rest from the soil as I'm still not sure the best course of action. Any advice is appreciated!

I need help saving my Swiss cheese plant (Monstera adansonii).
I got it about 8 months ago and it looked really healthy at first, but since then it has been constantly struggling. It was drooping a lot, and the leaves kept yellowing, browning, and dying off.
I've tried watering less, watering more, and moving it to three different spots with more and less light, but it has never seemed happy and just kept declining.
Last night (Monday 05/04), it got to the point where I removed some of the stems, trimmed to the nodes and put them in water to try to propagate them, but I’m worried they won’t make it because there was some root rot. (I don't know if there is any remaining).
There are also 2 pieces still in the soil that are not upright. I haven’t removed them because they’re really stuck in there, and I’m worried trying to pull them out will damage them more.
I'm including pictures of the cuttings and what's still currently in the soil.
My questions:
- Is it better to leave those pieces in the soil or try to remove them and propagate?
- If there was root rot, is this basically a lost cause or can it still be saved?
- For the cuttings that are in water, what should I do next? (They’ve been in a cup of water since last night)
- I read that it can be good to let cuttings dry out for a few days before propagating. Is that true for this plant? If so, how long? How do I know when to introduce water again?
- How do I continue to take care of this plant if it is salvageable?
I’m honestly pretty clueless at this point and would really appreciate step-by-step advice. I really don’t want to lose this plant if there’s still a way to save it. Thank you so much.
