Melbourne tolerant houseplants and ways to keep them alive in winter?

Hello! Basically I am just wondering if anyone has recommendations for types of plants to grow in my home? I live in an older building that gets quite cold in the winter. I had several house plants thrive over the summer, then immediately start dying as the cold weather hit (this has happened two years in a row). Most of my plants were free cuttings from work or avocado plants that I started from the pit. I’ve hesitated to purchase anything since I haven’t been able to keep anything alive and healthy.

I used to live in the US and had a LUSH houseplant collection, but I just can’t seem to get things going here. Any recommendations?

My care routine:
- Water my plants from the saucer to prevent mold
- Grow light that turns on every 12 hours
- Only water when the soil is dry, since the house is cold I find the soil stays moist a VERY long time
- Occasionally add water soluble plant food to the water

Hello! I’ve moved from the US to Aus. I brought over some of my counter top appliances and got to step-down converter to use them.

From my research:
Aus voltage is 240.
US is 110-120
My step down converter is 240 to 110

This worked well for my food processor, however, today I tried to use my vitamix blender. It turned on for a moment, then turned off suddenly. Now neither the converter nor the blender will turn on.

The blender says 120v, but from a quick google, it says the difference between 110v and 120v is negligible. So, from my understanding, the blender should have still worked as long as it went through the converter?

Have I done something horribly wrong? Do I suck at research and ruined my blender? Please any help would be so greatly appreciated!
