IDP Application Process
Hi everyone, just wanted to share the process I followed to get my IDP (International Driving Permit) through the RTO.
I applied through the official Sarathi Parivahan portal: Sarathi Parivahan
Here’s the process I followed:
• Logged in using Driving License details and Aadhaar authentication
• Uploaded the required documents:
- Driving License
- Passport
Although the portal mainly asks for the passport, I’d recommend also uploading your flighttickets and visa copy if available. I noticed many applications get sent back for re-upload otherwise.
After uploading the documents:
• Paid the ₹1000 fee
• The application started moving through different stages from the RTO side over the next few days
At the final stage, you’ll see:
“PRINTING IDP FOR A DL”
At this point, the portal asks the applicant to visit the RTO with a passport-size photograph.
I visited the RTO mentioned on my reference slip and carried:
• Reference slip
• Application form
• Passport-size photo
• All uploaded documents (just in case)
I informed them about the status shown on the Sarathi portal and submitted the photograph.
My IDP was ready the next day, and I collected it successfully.
Timeline:
• Applied: 5th May
• Collected: 12th May
• Total time: Around 7 days
One small tip: try visiting the RTO around 10 AM. The rush is usually much lower at that time.
