2026 Sportage Kia Dealership issues
Looking for advice before I involve OMVIC and get a lawyer involved.
Bought a brand new 2026 Kia Sportage two weeks ago. They had to source the car I wanted so we left a deposit and our finance information. it arrived the following week and I was able to pick it up the next day.
Arrived and went to pay the remaining deposit balance and sign some paperwork. Spent about 20 minutes trying to upsell with warranty and we politely declined.
Went outside to see the brand new car and the sales guy mentions for the first time that the steering wheel was damaged by the delivery driver but that we should worry because they already ordered a new steering wheel and it’s an easy fix. Frustrating but fine okay shit happens.
I inspect the whole car and find a small dent that they’d covered up with that car fixer paint stuff. I bring it up and the salesman acts like he just forgot to mention it but not to worry they’d take care of it.
I’m visibly frustrated at this point and fight with him to get both damages in writing on the bill of sale (they included both) and that they’ll fix it. He finally gets his manager and they promise they will be in touch Tuesday to schedule a time to come in. (Monday was a holiday).
Tuesday comes no update by 4:00 pm so I text and he says he’ll have an update tomorrow. 5:40 pm Wednesday comes and no update so I text again and an annoyed response at 10:30 at night saying not to worry these things take time.
I understand these are relatively minor issues but the whole point of buying a new car is not to have to deal with maintenance and repairs. Now I’m driving around a car with a dent in the side and rips on the steering wheel I can feel and see every time I get into the car.
A couple days to solve the problem sure why not but unresponsiveness with no timeline after a week seems completely nuts for a new car.
Any advice on what you all would do next in my shoes.
TLDR: bought brand new car, didn’t disclose minor interior and exterior damage until after sale closed. Promised to have issue solved by Tuesday. Chasing for updates with them pushing me off to the next day for updates. Damages included in bill of sale.
