What are your memories when you hear the FIFA '04 Soundtrack? 🎮
I'm writing a book set in summer '04. I have a specific scene with a character who is obsessed with tennis and soccer. He is showing his nerdy 14/15 year old little brother the magic of FIFA. My brother and I are about 20 years apart and although he introduced me to action-adventure games at 5 years old on the Nintendo 64 we didn't have true sibling rivalry. My sister and I absolutely did but not while playing video games. I am genuinely curious about the brother-to-brother video game dynamic in the early 2000s. Did the dynamic change when friends came over? Did anyone invite girls to come play or watch you play or was this game strictly "boys only"?
My boyfriend, for years, always refers to his summers based on the soundtracks of the FIFA video games. I played him the first song on the playlist without telling him and I could see in his eyes how he was immediately transported to being 13 years old. I asked him, "what do you smell? What's for lunch? What are you doing later? What are you wearing?" His responses:
- I smell sunblock. Sun exhaustion, maybe post beach
- omg I'm craving a burrito now
- probably going to ride my bike over to Derek or Martin's house
- baggy pants, long sleeve over tshirt, shark tooth necklace
