Moving into management

I’ve been a salesman at a domestic dealership for a year and a half now. It’s the first and only place I’ve sold cars. I was bad at first but now I’m doing well and usually sit around 15-21 cars a month. Currently at 16 cars for the month of August and roughly 11k in commission. I was asked by my manager if I ever considered a future in management. I was apprehensive because I’m making good money at the moment on the floor. I told him I’d like to sell cars still for now but would be interested to see what a sales managers role entails. Told him that sometimes I get burnt out from being with customers constantly for 12 hours socializing. He told me I’m doing good right now and to “keep doing what I’m doing”

Do sales managers on a gross pay plan typically do as good or better monthly income as a salesperson? I’m paid 25% of the front or 30% to 35% depending on unit average. Did I blow up my chance not giving a direct answer?

General Manager wants to fire me

I’ve been at the same dealership I started my career with for about a year and 6 months. Within the past few months our finance manager was promoted to general manager. I wasn’t a top salesman when I started, but now I’ve had the most units and gross 2 months in a row.

Me and him do not get along well. When I asked to take one of my PTO days on Monday he started yelling at me about it and freaking out. I mentioned how he’s taking PTO this week and he did not like that I said that. Another day I was on a pencil and he told me I’m a weak salesman and he’ll have someone else go close it. I argued with him about that and said I don’t like the way he talks to me. On another occasion he called me “chubs” because I’ve gained some weight since I started there.

He constantly threatens to fire people to scare them. I heard through his daughter that I’m dating that he “thinks he’s going to fire me.” I’m not sure what to do at this point cause I enjoy the store itself and my coworkers. Should I start looking for other dealerships or hold off and see if things get better? It seems like 90% of the time I’m talked down to by him and 10% of the time appreciated for my work
