Passed California Bar - moral character extension pending for 6 months. In the age of AI, this is absolutely unacceptable.
I have a prior positive moral character determination on file.
I received an email from the Bar saying my determination was about to expire... and asking for me to pay $370 for an "extension", or else pay the full $600+ for an new moral character app.
I did not have $370 laying around, so I saved money until about 2 weeks before my Positive determination was set to expire (March), and submitted the extension then.
I passed the February bar, receiving results in May.
Fast forward to August.... my "extension" still says "pending internal review". I am working at a law firm with an attorney position waiting for me to swear in. They have now been waiting for 6 months.
In the age of AI, this is absolute ridiculous and unacceptable.
This organization already has us put our lives on hold while they grudgingly drag their way through an archaic and incompetent testing process.
I am in a better moral and financial position than when my initial application was approved. What is the point of an "extension", if the time it takes to review and approval mirrors an initial application anyways.
This is WRONG, INCONSIDERATE, and INCOMPETENT... PER USUAL, by the bar.
