After years of suffering I'm still unsure

I've been trying to get my dental care sorted for years, depression doesn't make it easy, and neither does the healthcare system. But now I've finally got them, but I don't feel any happier yet.

I know I won't have to worry about infections anymore, in 2022 I was hospitalised and almost died from an infection with a fever of 114° and again in 2024, but its hard right now to tell myself that this is better. I only had local anaesthetic for the procedure and it was honestly horrible and traumatising, I cried the whole time until I went catatonic.

I no longer have any shame when I smile but can hardly speak, I can't sing like I love to. I feel like my teeth have no character, it doesn't feel like me, it feels boxy and weird, like it doesn't fit right at all.

I dunno, I know it takes weeks of adjustment and getting used to, and I've only had them for a day, but I feel really bummed that I'm going through so much pain and effort in order to make my life better and I still feel like its for naught. I wish I could see the light at the end of this ordeal already, I'm so tired of being in pain.

Trying to stay grateful, especially as my loved ones give me encouragement and support, I read some posts here leading up to the appointment and I felt so hopeful, I wish my dentures made me as happy as some of the people on here...
