Advice for Incoming CS Majors

i'm an incoming cs major at ucla. and have some free time this summer. while i'll definitely have fun, i wanna at least be semi-productive.

anyone have advice on what to focus on? currently planning to familiarize myself with c++ (for ucla lower-divs) and leetcode (for potential tech interviews).

i also want to work on projects, but not sure where to start. what kinds of projects actually stand out to recruiters? interested in ai/ml, but how can i differentiate myself?

thanks for the help!

hi, i'm an incoming cs major at ucla. i'm curious about what ai/ml classes i should take as electives to get into the field. i've already shortlisted a few, but please lmk if i'm missing any:

⁃ CS 145 (Intro to Data Mining)

- CS M146 (Intro to Machine Learning)

- CS M148 (Intro to Data Science)

- CS 161 (Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence)

- CS 162 (Natural Language Processing)

- CS 163 (Deep Learning for Computer Vision)

- CS 188 (Special Topics - usually AI/ML oriented?)

- EC ENGR 147 (Neural Networks and Deep Learning) ?

- EC ENGR 149 (Foundations of Computer Vision) ?

for EC ENGR 147/149, can CS majors register first-pass or easily get the class? or do ece majors have priority for enrollment?

also, i know cs majors are required to take 5 technical electives, but can i take 3 additional cs classes to satisfy my sci-tech requirement? is that a good idea to go deeper into ai/ml (8 classes total)?

thanks for the guidance!

hello, i'm an incoming cs major and just curious about which of these aps allow me to skip classes.

-stats,

-csa,

- lang (already got a 4 on lit),

- macro (might take econ upper divs for sci-tech, or pursue double major),

- gov (did not take apush)

also, what is the benefit of "unassigned" credits from aps? i'm pretty sure cs requirements already take up the 180 credits needed for graduation. would unassigned credits help with enrollment times?
