Colitis

I was wondering if anyone has had experience with a double diagnosis of diverticulitis, and colitis due to immunotherapy. My mom ended Opdivo/Yervoy in March 2025, but has had colitis off and on for the last 6 months. The Gastro said it should clear up on its own, but that didn’t happen, and now antibiotics aren’t working. He suggested at the last appointment that she have part of her colon removed. Is this common?

Caring for an obese person

I know weight is a sensitive topic but I was hoping anyone with experience caring for a morbidly obese person could give me some insight. To make a long story short, my mom has had numerous health issues, the main one being stage 4 cancer that made her bed bound for a few months, so she did spend some time in a rehab/SNF. Once she got out she did at home PT but hasn’t kept up on increasing her mobility. For the past 3 years I’ve been her caregiver, but she was recently hospitalized due to a fall.

Rehab was mentioned again but I don’t know if she’s going to go through with it. At the same time she doesn’t have anyone to care for her full time, since my dad and I both work. In the hospital she requires a 2 person assist as she’s 280 pounds with limited mobility. It took 4 adults to lift her off the floor with a sling after I called 911 and I don’t know if they’ll release her home if it’s just me, and she won’t let me hire a caregiver. It’s tough because she doesn’t seem to understand what it takes to care for her or the decisions that need to be made, and I don’t know if it’s stubbornness or effects of previously having a brain tumor. She just thinks that the families who put their LO’s in SNF’s don’t care about them, but idk if I’m being unreasonable in thinking that her care is going to be too much for me. At the moment she can’t use a bedside commode because it’s painful for some reason, so she’s using a pure wick and chucks in the hospital.

I guess this ended up turning into a vent but I wanted to know, if you care for someone like this, do you need two people to assist with things like toileting? Did your LO have to go to an SNF because their obesity made mobility and caring for them too difficult?

Mesh Network for Business?

We currently run 400-500 ft of Ethernet cable with multiple extenders from our house to our business, but the internet is unreliable. The distance between the business and the house is 300 ft with greenhouses in between. I was thinking of doing a mesh network or wifi extender. Any recommendations on equipment? Spectrum at first said they couldn’t do a separate service for the business and then said they could, but we’re looking into other options.

I’ve noticed that I don’t have much to talk about with my mom anymore after 4 years of caregiving. When I actually get the chance to do something fun, it feels rude to talk about it, considering she doesn’t get out unless it’s a doctor appointment. If I ask her how her weekend went, it’s just a lot of complaining about my dad. On the other hand when I honestly say I did nothing besides work, it’s a disappointment to her too. Problem is I need to work all weekend to make up for the few hours I get during the week because most of that time is spent caring for her. I almost get mad that she asks, like I have such a fun life or something.

When we do talk, she just wants to talk about the news. I stay up to date on politics but she watches it non stop. We don’t even have different viewpoints, but the conversations are so repetitive. I end up saying “yeah” a lot because I can’t come up with something new to say every time. It’s the same thing when a commercial she doesn’t like comes on, she makes the same complaints over and over. Or on the way to appointments, she makes the same complaints about the way certain peoples’ houses look every time. She had a stroke and a brain tumor so I get it, she might not remember she’s already told me the same thing before, but the negative attitude has been around forever and I’m so tired of it. She cut off all friends and family so there’s no other outlet for her. Sorry just needed to vent and hope someone else can chime in on how annoying this behavior is.
