DIY patio: pavers vs cement slab/pad

We have a large space that we want to to put our gazebo on top of and have a nice level ground underneath for a table/chairs. I'm trying to decide on pavers vs concrete slab.

Pavers would be more expensive right?

But cement slab would be easier?

What about longevity? Cement slab will likely crack at some point, right? But isn't it also likely that pavers will shift and potentially sink or rise if the base isn't done perfectly?

I'm not sure how confident I am in our skills to do the patio perfectly.

So considering cost, ease, and longevity....what do you think? Also open to completely different ideas.

My husband wants to just throw mulch down but that would be so difficult to have a table and chairs on right!?
