Training to run a 5k after 2 kids. Advice please!
Hi, I am a 32 year old stay at home mom that has started to run as a medium of workout recently. I am a fairly healthy adult who gained close to 40 kg during and my two pregnancies.
Now, having lost 25 kg, I have slowly started to take up running during my workouts. I was not a big fan of running anyways - lost in all of my school running races and the idea of running on a treadmill never impressed me ( I have preferred playing outdoors or doing yoga). But after a gentle cheer from my husband, I have signed up for a 5k for late October.
I usually speed walk at 3.2 mph at the treadmill and today I jogged at 3.7, I am happy to say that I was able to sustain for longer stretch and I enjoyed it! I am challenging myself to do a sub 30 for the race. Please advise me on how I can improve my endurance and pace. I have zero knowledge on this. Also do I have to strength train and continue yoga to aid my performance? My aim is to increase my endurance and run longer miles at some point in life!
