Go Beyond Manhattan: Parks, Museums & Attractions

With so much attention focused on Manhattan [rightfully so], I thought it would be fun to highlight some great places to visit in the other boroughs: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.

This isn't meant to be a comprehensive list, just a collection of parks, beaches, museums, and cultural sites that are worth checking out. I also intentionally left out restaurants to keep the focus on attractions and things to do.

Question for Contributors: The other 4 boroughs

The culture/things to do info on Manhattan is covered & talked about pretty extensively so I was thinking of putting together a post about the other 4 boros. I need some help from you guys so it can all go in one post. Anyone want to volunteer to contribute some talking points about Brooklyn, Queens, or Staten Island (I got The Bronx covered)?

Start Spreading The News... Knicks Parade

On Thursday, June 18 the NBA Champion NY Knicks will be feted and cheered along the Canyon of Heroes (in Lower Manhattan, along Broadway from Battery Park to City Hall) and will end with a ceremony at City Hall. Parade starts at 10AM, which means people will start getting to the area super early. Probably will wind up a few hours later.

How does this affect your visit? Honestly, unless you were planning to spend the day in the area, not at all. So the easy solution is to visit another part of the city (anything above Chambers St.). Subways will be extra busy in the AM so please remember basic public transit etiquette (don't block doors, move to the center of the car, take off your gigantic backpack, if it's too crowded wait for next train).

Please read through this sub for ideas & suggestions. You could always join in the festivities!
