Phenobarbitol ‘zapping’ side effect?
Hi all, my 3.5yr old kelpie has just started a high dose of phenobarbital 4 days ago. He had cluster seizures (3 in 15hrs) so the vet has given the high dose to hopefully contain this. He has the common side effects such as clumsiness (struggles to walk, can’t jump on the bed, bumps into things), crazy for food, lethargic. Something that has started last night is that it looks like he is getting zapped, like a sudden jolt in his body just for a second. He doesn’t lose consciousness or anything else, just this zap. But it goes on for about 10-15 minutes. Does anyone have experience with this and know if this is a side effect from the meds? We have a follow up appointment with our vet in 2 days, but just want to try put my mind at ease in case these are focal seizures he is having or if it is a side effect.
