Old names from 10 west african cultures ?
Alright, so, firstly, hello everybody, this is my first post around here, and I hope it's not an undiscreet one :)
For context, I am an avid world-builder, and one of my issues with usual world-building is the near exclusive focus on a few specific european cultures and occasionaly China, while leaving Turtle Island, Africa and Oceania completely left.
As such, I am trying to work on various stories and cultures inspired by the many, many peoples of Africa.
More precisely, I have now come to have made up a tale explaining why people originating from West Africa, Ashanti and others, have come to reach the fantasy world I built. It revolves around the machinations of Ananse, looking to bring people to three "doors" to that other world on the demand of a black snake, that promised him to let him into a library of all knowledge that was, is and will be, in exchange for a hundred men and a hundred women from 10 different kingdoms (I know it's not necessarily historically accurate to have precisely ten kingdom of the cultures I'll mention later at the same time, but it's a tale, and my focus is honestly more on the people than the political situation). Once done, the Snake asks Ananse if he cared who were the people he gave away, and if he at least remembers their name. He gives all of them, but made up all but ten of them, the first people he met in each kingdom.
So here comes my question: Could anyone enlighten me and recommend me old names from the Ashanti, Edo, Mandé, Songhai, Haussa, Yoruba, Igbo, Kanuri, Touareg and Wolof peoples ? (Sorry if these are not the proper names or if they are badly orthographied, I am sadly not as educated as I would like to)
(Also, I know I could have asked Internet or that damned ChatGPT, but I fear internet and it's sources tend to be overall too full of non-african uneducated opinions, so as always, I prefer to ask the people who are directly concerned by the subject)
