REMINDER: The comment period for the OMB's Proposed Federal Financial Assistance Rule ends next week

This proposal intends to cut free preschool, veteran's benefits and places serious restrictions on the scientific industry by limiting research to only whatever benefits the current political party and can freely deny research grants towards anything they dislike. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Overriding peer review
  • Terminating active grants for any given reason at any time
  • Banning DEI, gender research and related topics as grant conditions
  • Restricting scientists from seeing work done in other countries

For a direct link to the regulation proposal page (currently at 47k comments):

I wanna make sure people aren't gonna forget about this, and to see people make as much noise as possible, because my biggest concern outside of this being enacted is the possibility of this proposal being slept on.

The Department of the Interior/Bureau of Land Management has announced the revocation of grazing permits from the American Prairie Foundation on federal lands in Montana, effectively forcing up to 950 animals from the state in favor of ranchers.

According to the NYT article on the matter, the decision stems from the Taylor Grazing Act of 1934, which cite that the animals allowed to graze should be livestock for food, and that bison were declared wildlife.

On a personal note, this is genuinely infuriating because this is effectively wiping them out from the state altogether.
