Should I slow down to get better?

Let me explain. I've been playing squash for about 10 years. I love it. But as we all know it can be brutal on the body. Today I played against someone I have played against many times before, but I made a conscious effort of slowing everything down and focusing on accuracy. I played better "looking" squash but, extended rallies, tired my opponent and didn't feel absolutely battered when I came off court however ... I also lost some points I would have won playing in the more hard hitting and somewhat frantic movement style.

I also enjoyed it a lot more but also wondered could I get better overall but just being a bit... well, slower? Is this is something I should think about when training (i.e. solo / ghosting).

Thanks!
