First Needlestick Injury

As the title says, I stuck myself with a dirty needle today. I’m new, just got out of clinicals and started at this hospital a month ago. The surgeon I worked with today is a particularly demanding and hard to work with guy and he got me a little flustered and I made a silly mistake.

How many needle sticks have you all had over your career? I’m definitely trying to take this as a lesson but it’s hard to not beat myself up.

Gowning and Gloving off a Back Table

Relatively new tech here. Worked at 4 different hospitals during clinical, all in the same system and am full time at the largest one now.

Does anyone in here actually gown and glove off of a mayo stand? I think I had one preceptor do it during clinicals and this was at the smallest hospital that only does urology… I think I quit trying after the 3rd week.

Spare me the “it’s best practice to gown and glove off a mayo” or “as a new tech you’ll contaminate the entire back table if you gown and glove off it.” I was taught the same way everyone else was and am aware what is considered best practice.

I’m just curious cause I know if the techs in a pretty big system (the one I work for) all gown off a back table then I assume a lot of other hospitals do as well. What are everyone’s thoughts on this?

Mask Acne

How do you guys prevent mask acne? I have pretty acne prone/ oily skin as it is and have for sure started breaking out more around my chin and jaw since I’ve started.

First Week

Just finished my first week of clinicals. I got to do a decent amount of stuff, even passed a total knee (with preceptor assistance) but holy shit I’m exhausted. I’m glad it gets easier.
