I joined my schools marching band but I don’t know nothing about music AT ALL & only picked mellophone cause that’s where my friend was.

I really do want to give marching band a try but I’ve got until August 10th to learn how to play an instrument and whatnot all by myself. Does anyone have any advice for me or anything that could guide me in the right direction?
