I have a Dell Inspiron 5456 laptop (Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD). It used to run at normal speeds and handled some games fine—even without a dedicated graphics card—but lately, it’s become extremely slow and keeps freezing. I’ve already reformatted the drive (I switched from Windows 11 to Windows 10), but that didn't fix it. I updated the video drivers and even tried installing the OS on an older hard drive, but nothing worked. I keep it plugged into the wall because the battery is faulty; the temperature seems normal, though the cooling fan kicks into high gear every time I turn it on before eventually quieting down. I used monitoring software, and the temperature stays below 60°C. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?
