First enjoyable sessin in ages!

I returned to the ice a few months back after injury. Its been awful. No enjoyment, just a grinding fear every time.

Yesterday felt like a breakthrough. No new tricks or anything technical, but the first time that I felt like I was gliding and enjoying it. There's still some nerves, but I felt like my skates and body were working together again.

It's really cheered me up.

Relax

The coach told me today that he's seen corpses with less rigorous morrts than me, he has a valid point.

I skate like I'm weight lifting. Brace the core, make everything stable, no wobbling etc. Some of it is down to paranoia as well.

How the hell do you relax and be fluid though when you also need to keep knees bent, but not too bent, chest up, arse in, shoulders down but arms up and make sure that the skates are always under the centre on mass in order to stay vertical.

Head gear

Hey all,

I've started doing jumps and after seeing the speed at which the lady next to me hit the deck (she was OK, just some bruises) I think that it might be worthwhile wearing some headgear.

  1. What's folks opinions?
  2. Any particular recomendations?

So much fear

I've been back to ice skating now for a few weeks after a really significant injury in February.

I'm struggling.

The LTS today involved me spending the first fifteen minutes _literally_ with my legs shaking from fear. Before the accident I was stroking and gliding and lemon-ing and loving it. It was all beginner stuff, but so much fun. I could spend a good few hours on the rink practicing what little I'd learned, now I can cope with a few minutes of solo time before I have to leave the ice again to get my head sorted again.

It sucks. If anyone has a magic spell that could help me get into the right headspace again then please let me know.

First day back

I started learning to skate in January, then fell on the ice after four lessons and broke my arm.

Today, I'm back to trying it again. I'm back to learning to walk again, and I'm constantly fighting the fear. Really shaky legs and I keep tensing up and leaning forward.

I hope I get back to enjoying it again, rather than just surviving it.
