Hey guys

I'm a final year medical student currently studying in Uzbekistan. I plan to apply for U.S. observerships for 2027, but I don't have any observership acceptance yet.

Because B1/B2 visa interview wait times can be long in India, I'm considering submitting my DS-160 and booking a visa appointment now.

My questions are:

1. If I apply for a B1/B2 visa now without an observership invitation, what should I put as my purpose of travel and U.S. contact?

2. If I later receive an observership invitation, can I submit a new DS-160 and use it for my existing appointment?

3. Would I need to pay the US$185 visa fee again if I submit a new DS-160?

4. Has anyone here successfully obtained a B1/B2 visa first and then used it later for observerships?

For context, I have previous travel history to UAE, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan (can this be a red flag) and will be applying from India.
