Letters of recommendation

Is it typical for most programs to want around 3 letters of recommendation for the application? Also, who were these people typically? PI's make sense, and professors, but what are some others that people asked for letters from? (I am a potential chemistry PhD applicant).

UC online credit

This is probably way too specific of a question but like did anyone take a UC Online course that was a prerequisite for another course of theirs, and it still didn’t let you register while the course is IP?

I’m taking calc 3 through uc online and its the only pre req I need for pchem.

Do I have to wait to register until I’m fully done with the course or is something wrong cuz usually they let you register as long as its IP and you pass it.

(I know to go ask the counselors but I thought I’d ask here first!)

I am thinking of applying to UCSB for my PhD for the next round of applications (2027 admission), and I am currently an undergrad here. I was wondering how hard it is/how much of an impact it has if I am applying to do my PhD here in the same department that I do research in now. Does it make it a bit easier? I know it is different for every department, but I was just wondering overall if anyone has any input or experience with that.
