Wool alternative?

I'd like to make my husband a Roman sagum but wool is either hard to come by or absolutely not in my budget. Does anyone know of a decent, low cost alternative? I don't mind synthetic fibers. We'll do wool when we're not in debt XD

Edit: thanks for the suggestions. A wool blanket isn't really what I'm looking for, and thrifting in my area is slim pickins. I think I'm just gonna search up some polyester coating weight synthetic wool on fabrics.com or something.

Good I miss Joann.

Interfacing instead of buckram?

So I really want to make these stays, but I'm a little light on linen (rip Joanne), so I can't just make my own buckram, and living in a small enough town that ONLY has a Michaels and a Hobby Lobby (🤮), and no real good local fabric stores aside from quilting cotton.... What can I use (such as a sew-in or fusible interfacing?) for structure between boning?

And completely unrelated, but while I have you here, where might one find decently priced wool by the yard for a Roman Sagum?
