Is french really worth it?

I’m 22 and starting French from zero now, mainly to qualify for the French-language Express Entry draws.

My plan is to reach NCLC 7 and apply around late 2028 or early 2029. I’m also completing a degree alongside French, which should finish around late 2028.

My concern is whether the French draws will still be a realistic pathway by then. Right now, the CRS cutoffs look great, but I’m worried that more people will start learning French over the next 2–3 years and the cutoffs will rise significantly.

Do you guys think the French-language category will remain relatively accessible in 2028–2029, or is it risky to base my immigration plan around it?

I know nobody can predict the future, but I’d really appreciate opinions from people who have followed Express Entry for a while.

Any chance of me succeeding?

I’ve been attending Alliance Française to learn French for about two weeks now, and honestly, I’m feeling really discouraged.

I know two weeks isn’t a long time, but I feel like I’ve made almost no progress. I’m struggling with pretty much everything—listening, speaking, pronunciation, grammar, and even remembering basic vocabulary. Meanwhile, some of the kids in my class seem to be progressing much faster than I am, which makes me feel even worse about my own learning.

What makes this harder is that I paid a significant portion of my salary for the admission fees and classes. It was a big investment for me, and now I’m worried that I might not be capable of reaching my goal of learning French at all.

My long-term goal is to become reasonably fluent within the next one or two years, but right now that feels impossible. I leave class feeling overwhelmed and wondering whether I’m wasting my time and money.

Has anyone else gone through something similar when learning French or another language? Did you struggle badly at the beginning and eventually improve? Should I stick with the course, change my study methods, get a tutor, or lower my expectations?

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have been in the same situation and managed to get through it.
