Ladies and Gentlemen, Fasten Your Seatbelts
I get it. I played CE as my first shooter as a kid. Then every Halo after that. I love the original trilogy as much as anyone. I really hated H4 when it came out and still do for various reasons I could outline in a post as long as this one. 5 was the biggest slap in the face I’ve ever had from a franchise that I loved. No split-screen was another slap in the face (Fuck you 343 I’m still mad) Infinite was better than both but still felt lacking in so many areas, especially the story and the cutscenes delivering it. Oh and still no split-screen after promising to bring it back. (Fuck you again 343).
I cannot for the life of me figure out where the hate for campaign evolved is coming from. Yeah the cutscenes are a little worse. They took out some excellent lines and had Jen and Steve re-record some in a worse way. I think those reasons are enough to recommend the original CE as the quintessential way to play the game for a new player. That’s fine by me. I’ve been playing on OG graphics on MCC for years. But to say this new remake isn’t a really fun, in some ways improved version of the original I think is so misguided.
343 Guilty Spark is leagues ahead of both the original and anniversary, same deal with The Library and honestly everything after the botched Two Betrayals cutscene. I don’t know if it’s just people review-bombing because of supposed ‘wokeness’, or the much earned backlash against 343 for their last few games, but regardless this is a very good video game, with some very good bones.
(Also the prequel missions shouldn’t have been prequels. They should’ve been playing as The Arbiter but on the other side of the battle for Halo, Keith David is still voice acting all over the shop and no one has ever gotten tired of his voice. And also playable Elites would’ve been a must then).
Finished Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine last month after a couple more playthroughs, and now they’re announcing a third DLC 10 years after the fact?! Are you fucking serious? I genuinely can’t believe my luck. 10/10 game, in my top 3 of all time and they couldn’t leave it there, it’s gotta be the best of all time now.
Or is it a case of I have to start at the first book to understand the subsequent ones? I’m mainly interested in knowing things about Geralt and Yennefer’s relationship, or anything to do with Ciri and the elder blood. Anything Dijkstra related would be good too as he’s infinitely interesting as a character.
