Martina as FB is not a good option

She is too slow, decent top speed, but zero explosiveness. It is not the right profile for a FB player who depends a lot on pace to defend and make play.

The weakness is on full display today, she couldn’t run into position fast enough, failed to win any 1-on-1 duel, Hemp dribbled past her at will, leaving goal exposed. Offensively, she didn’t do much either.

From Ona to Martina is a downgrade unfortunately, pace is not something you could make up in training. There is no rationale to play her in this role other than temporary until Aïcha and Noa are back, or we sign a proper FB from market.

I am a little concerned about our defense. We lost 2 very important starters, Renee is a great signing, but she is right-foot, while the ideal replacement is a left-foot player as left CB. Martina and Laia are both slow, Irene is fantastic as usual, but nevertheless 1 year older, Marta’s role is more in the locker room. The bright spots are Aïcha, Carla, and potentially Noa coming up, all others are still too young to make an actual impact in the short term.

Kerolin vs. France (June 2025)

Brazil is a physical team playing with a lot of pace and intensity, it has an uncommon 3412 system, in which Kerolin’s role seems between a 9 and 10. She contributes to attack, but also functions as a play-marker in the final 3^(rd), a lot of Brazil’s creativity comes from her.

Get a glimpse of her pace, strength, 1^(st) touch, control, vision, and decision making from the clip. Feel free to compare it to Salma and draw your own conclusion.

Btw, she rinsed Lakrar the whole game, hope it is gonna repeat in the league, I am eager to see her debut!

Barça signs Danish talent Josephine Lamp

We signed her U17 teamate Nikoline Nielsen back in February, there will be 2 Danish players on B team next season, believe that's a first 😄

She is a left-foot defensive midfield. I like that she handles pressure very well, always finds the right pass, although I'd like to see her taking more shorts and show more strength in defense, a must to play this role for Barça.

For anyone interested, you can watch both of them play from link below.

El Barça, Campeón del Torneo Juvenil!

Team played well, especially in the 2^(nd) half, the 2 black girls, Lidia and Traoré simply have too much pace. Charlotta, Rosalia had great game, also like Ivet and Mayssa.

Mayssa seems to me like a player with good striking instinct and character, hope we have another world-class 9 from La Masia. I read she is daughter of Morocco international Nabil Baha, a Málaga native representing Spain.

Btw the club renewed Charlotta’s contract a couple days after my last post, coincident? 😊

Meet our next-gen defenders

Cheers, from left to right:

Charlotta Dagny Ohlander (3/20/10, CB), Julia Torres Echevarría (1/15/09, CB), Noa Jiménez Olivares (3/28/08, LB/RB), Carla Julià Martínez (11/11/06, LB/RW), Aïcha Cámara Cámara (12/11/06, CB/LB/RB), Maria Llorella Barrera (5/14/06, CB/RB);

Wishlist: Aiara Agirrezabala Azkue (10/1/08, LB/LW)

- Charlotta: still in “Barça Juvenil”, but already training with B team b/c her talent. In the Euro-S17 tournament a few weeks ago, she played every minute of every game. Barcelona native with Swedish descent, her father was Barça handball coach (so from a long line of Culé). Defensively, her positioning and decision-making are very good, composed under pressure, but her offensive is the most impressive, with outstanding technical skills and Mapi-esque forward passings. Her pace still needs to be tested at high level, but I look forward to her debut

- Julia: a signing of rumored €300~500k, even with inflation, that’s a lot of money for a young player, speaks volumes of the club’s expectation

- Noa: Noa’s profile is similar to Lucía Corrales, fast and agile, more versatile as she can play both sides of the pitch, offensive minded player, hopefully she can fill the big void Ona left behind ...

- Maria: natural CB but can play as FB because of her pace. I suspect she is the most pacy CB we have, a great attribute b/c we play so high. I believe Barça just renewed her contract, she debuted with 1^(st) team in February, definitely look forward to seeing more of her next season

 - Aiara: on my wish list lol, have watched her play for a while, at age 17 she is already called into senior NT, starting for La Real in Liga F. Very powerful / explosive player with attacking mind. Aiara and Aïcha are Spain’s future duo. In yesterday’s game, the 2 of them were dueling each other, with almost identical pace!

A shout-out to Pere and a wholehearted, tireless team defense

I was critical of the 2^(nd) Bayern game. IMO we struggled in the last 20m because 1) we thought we already won 2) the subs were wrong, both Pina and Vicky are technical players, neither is strong in defense. Aitana should be given last 5m in her 1^(st) come back game, not 25m, her mistake led to the goal, almost cost the game.

There was a post by u/pawnshopb1ues 2wks ago, in which many echoed the same sentiment

https://www.reddit.com/r/FCBFemeni/comments/1t9mqju/thoughts_on_oslo_lineup_and_why_starting_pina_and/

Fast forward to the final, I give Pere and the entire team huge credit for learning from previous mistake. OL is a physical team, starting Clara was a bold / right call, she gave our midfield much-needed stability, so Patri wasn’t overwhelmed. In fact, the entire team showed they could adapt & defend well when called for:

·       24’: Alexia blocked Hegerberg shot right in front goal

·       27’: Mapi missed a long pass, Esmee rushed 15 yards to block a shot by Becho inside penalty. Esmee’s defensive work was impeccable, she checked Becho and the left side, just as Patri checked Dumornay

·       45’: clear yellow card foul of Yohannes on Caro wasn’t given

·       54’: our 1^(st) goal originated from Patri’s interception of a pass to Dumornay (followed by a 40-yard run carrying ball forward + a perfect left-foot pass, love her!)

·       64’: Alexia blocked another strong shot by Bacha inside penalty

·       87’: great team defense by Mapi and Aïcha blocking a fast counter by Chawinga

·       89’: our 3^(rd) goal originated from Aïcha winning 1:1 defense duel vs. Jule, followed by a magic backward no-look pass from Patri

·       Caro, Ewa and Salma not only pressed hard up front, but constantly run back to defend

·       Clara was clearly tasked to manage Yohannes, there was almost no gap between them, she pretty much grounded her for the entire game. Plus, a back-heel pass to Alexia which led to 2^(nd) big chance by Ewa around 34’. For me Clara is another Patri in the making, such an exciting young player to watch

NGL I was worried about our defense in particular before the match. The match didn’t go as I have anticipated in many ways, but it was a much-deserved win. Just look at the last goal, the entire team were charging forward at full speed after 90 + 3’, that’s a team with heart and mentality!
