Popcorn Vet Upday! Good News!

Popcorn Vet Upday! Good News!

I posted earlier this week about having added Popcorn to our little family and being upset at the state he was in upon getting him. He is very small for his age, had excessive matting all over his body, and was worried about him in general.

Today he was seen by our exotic vet and other then him being malnourished and needing many of the mats to actually be cut out, he is surprisingly healthy given the amount of neglect he seemed to have.

Just wanted to share the good news with everyone! Now we just have to fatten him up a bit and he will be right as rain!

New little lad in our family! But have to rant a bit!

Bit of a rant. I don't want to particularly shame these people or anything, but have to rant about the state of the chinchilla, Popcorn, that me and my partner just adopted from someone rehoming in the area.

First off before Popcorn we have had 2 chinchillas, the first past away early this year, Theodore, and we have had our 2nd from before he passed away, Roosevelt. We have been wanting to get a second chinchilla to keep him company, even if not in the same cage, but did not want to go through a pet store. So I have been contacting reputable breeders and looking at shelters and rehoming listing on fb market place and craigslist.

There was a woman wanting to rehome her 3y/o chinchilla because her kids no longer gave it attention and didn't want it neglected. I love her for having that realization and for doing what was right for him. The problem was that after getting Popcorn, it seems he has been somewhat neglected for a while now! I am so mad for him and what he went through. It seems they did minimal to NO research on chinchillas before getting him.

Some examples of this are that his cage was FULL of plastic bits that have been almost completely chewed through, I am surprised he hasn't had previous problems! He has really bad matting underneath his fur that you can't even see, not tuffs that you can pull but full matted balls. And he has some obvious gunk that looks like smeared poo of some sort on his back!

He has been the sweetest boy and we already love him! We are doing the best we can to clean him up, already switch him to a 3 tier ferret nation cage we had in storage and taking him to out exotic vet as soon as possible just to make sure, and also to hopefully get help with the matting.

I just feel so frustrated that this little man didn't get the life he deserved for the first part of his life and wanted to vent some. Thank you for reading this far if you have and here is a picture of Popcorn our new adoptee, the plastic carnage he did on his previous cage, then a cute little pic of his new bother Roosevelt! You may have seen him in a previous post by my partner but wanted to share the cuteness! Then lastly his new cage as it is currently, waiting to get a wheel and a few more ledges for him to jump around on!

Please help or advise! Feeling hopeless.

I just found out I have CHS immediately stopped smoking, just not worth this pain. But this is day 3-4 of this episode and I am thinking of going to the ER again butbhave already been twice in the last two days. I'm afraid they will think I'm drug seeking or something even though I only every ask for nausea and sleeping medications.

The throwing up isn't quite as bad but can only keep down ice chips sipping any electrolyte drink or even water makes me violently sick. I'm so hungry, tired, and thirsty idk what to do. I'm in so much pain when not in a boiling hot bath. I feel like I am dying. The last ER visit they gave me a prescription for Zofran and promethazine suppository neither did much. The Zofran at the er (IV) worked wonders but not the pill. Idk if I should go back to the ER or just try to tough it out longer and hope it passes?

Found out today I have CHS, been smoking daily for over 15 years. Advice please..

So I just got out of the ER today with a pretty diffinitive diagnosis of CHS. I'm not sure what to do, I've been managing my insomnia, depression, anxiaty, and stress mostly with weed. Probably not the most heathly,

I know, but always felt better then taking a bunch of medications. I don't know the last time I went even a week without smoking. I just need some advice on how to move forward and and plus or positives for this happening, because right now this just sucks massivly.
