Backpack Question..

I’m a beginner looking for a rucksack that is not huge and military like. I feel like most of the rucksacks are too tactical looking for me to wear anywhere. are there any good north face or osprey bags that could handle 10-20lbs in the laptop sleeve? Thanks.

Utility to Contractor as apprentice

I don’t want to give too many details on here but I’m a bottom step A lineman apprentice and I was wondering how it would work if I were to jump ship at the utility to go contracting. I don’t think we even get a card when you top out as a journeyman. I have a few questions so I will list them out here:

-What are my first steps?

-Do I need to take a test?

-Should I wait to top out?

-Do I need to buy my own tools?

-How does signing the books work and can I still be employed where I’m at to get the process going?

-What are the time frames on all of this?

I am mainly looking toward contracting because I am interested in traveling for work and also the flexibility it brings for having time off. I have read on here that the shop politics aren’t nearly as bad and you’re not stuck with the same guys forever.

Also what are the pros and cons? I don’t mind being on call where I’m at but I feel like the work life balance could be better. We’re pretty short staffed.
