Buyback vs. Making payments now for qualifying employer
Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere. Just learned about the buyback program.
I've been working for a qualifying employer for the last 13 years, and just submitted recertification for a few months of forbearance that will put me up to 112 months of qualifying payments, so that would make 8 more to get me to the necessary 120.
While my loans have been in admin forbearance / forbearance related to the SAVE plan the past few years, I'm wondering if it would make sense to apply for buyback for 8 months to try to get things forgiven.
My hesitation is that I still work for the qualifying employer, so I could theoretically just submit payments for 8 months to get up to the qualifying 120? Not sure what the next step would be here.
Any thought here would be appreciated - haven't been able to get a hold of anybody helpful.
