Random WiFi “limited access” issues on Linux (CachyOS) after months of perfect stability
Hi everyone,
I’ve been using my desktop PC for about 1.5 years now. For the first year I was on Windows 11, and for the last ~6 months I’ve been on CachyOS. Throughout that entire time I’ve been using WiFi without any real issues — stable connection, good latency, and high download speeds.
However, for about the last 2 weeks I’ve started experiencing a strange issue.
At completely random intervals, my WiFi suddenly shows “limited access” / connectivity issues. It only lasts a few seconds, and then everything goes back to normal automatically. But it happens often enough to be really noticeable, especially when gaming or during Discord calls where even a short interruption is annoying.
On top of that, I’ve also started experiencing very high latency spikes (around 100–300ms, sometimes even higher) during normal use, which I never had before. This makes online gaming and voice calls noticeably unstable even when the connection is technically “working”.
My setup:
- OS: CachyOS (fully up to date)
- Router: FRITZ!Box 6660 Cable
- 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz are combined under a single SSID (band steering enabled, I assume)
- WiFi channels are set to automatic
- WiFi adapter: TP-Link Archer TX20E AX1800 (PCIe)
- Bugreport Link - https://paste.cachyos.org/p/aff17eb.log
What’s strange is that this setup worked perfectly for over a year without any drops or instability. The issue only started recently, without any major changes on my side that I’m aware of.
Has anyone experienced something similar on CachyOS? Any ideas what I should check first — driver issues, power saving settings, router config, etc.?
Thanks in advance!
