Help solve this awkward primary-suite entrance door!
Can Reddit solve the door problem our designer hasn’t been able to crack?
We’re renovating a townhouse. A door separates the stair landing from the primary suite. See red arrow in the floor plan.
It swings inward and right as you enter the suite, blocking the narrow hallway between the bedroom and bathrooms and swinging into anyone who is walking there.
Complications:
● The surrounding geometry prevents the door from opening fully against a wall.
● The passage is only slightly wider than the approximately 32-inch door.
● Swinging it onto the stair landing would create safety and circulation issues.
Am I overestimating the problem? How would you orient or redesign the door? I’d appreciate any creative solutions!
