Best way to store skates

I just purchased my first pair of skates and I’m looking for experts to weigh in on how to best store these.

I know to wipe them when I’m off the ice and use soakers to transport. When I get home I remove the soakers, wipe the blades again and let them air out and flip the soakers inside out to dry out. Once everything is dried overnight I replace the soakers onto the skates to store them. (I have three children and do not want the blades exposed).

I have shelf I can store them. Do I lay them on their sides? Boot down and blade up? Do they make pegs for them to go in so nothing is under pressure? I want to make sure they are well taken care of since they were quite the investment!

Extreme foot pain in Jackson freestyles

I purchased Jackson freestyles last week after going to see a very highly recommended fitter. We did heat molding and a punch out of one area. Today I went to skate, and while I expected them to be uncomfortable I was not ready for just how much they hurt. I spent about 2 minutes on the ice before getting off and trying to re-lace them. I did this two more times before I was just in too much pain to continue. I got maybe 10 minutes in them. I also experienced toe numbness across all my toes. The balls of my feet are screaming like I’m in a pair of high heels made of rock.

I trust that my fit is correct, but my goodness this is so much pain (and I’ve had multiple kids without any pain meds). Does anyone have any tips before I try and go on the ice again?

Irvine or Anaheim?

I am basically the exact distance from both the Anaheim and Irvine fitters. For those who have been to them, which do you prefer and why? I’m a complete beginner and have never been fitted before. I am not able to go to both. I’m hoping to go tomorrow and have no idea who will be working at the time I might be able to go. TIA!

Ways to strengthen myself off the ice

I have recently taken up ice skating and absolutely love it. I have three kids so I can’t exactly go often, but I’m hoping to go a few times a month (they have ice skating practice once a week and public skate starts right after they are done so sometimes i plan on joining them after).

I plan on buying myself some skates once I can get to a fitter. I want to find some exercises that I can do at home to strengthen my body in places I’ll need to strengthen them in relation to ice skating. Is there anything in particular that you find helpful on the ice? I notice I have trouble getting myself off the ice, so I’ve been practicing just motions of getting up and off the ground properly, and I want to practice lifting my knee up with ankle weights to mimic moving the skate up without hitting the toe pic and falling.

Id love some suggestions!

Need new skates advice

Hello all! Ive been learning to skate recreationally and I love it. What I do not love however, is rental skates. My feet are killing me within 30 minutes of my session starting (free skate today was 2.5 hours and I like to stay the whole time).

I’ve measured my feet multiple times and have received the same measurements each time. Im a ladies 5.5/ men’s 4. Now, my nephew used to take lessons and my SIL had purchased him mystiques. He didn’t continue long after the purchase and she gave us the skates and my three kids have started lessons. Ironically, the skates are men’s size 4.

I’ve tried them on, and while I know they’re supposed to be super tight, it is incredibly difficult to get my feet in. I have to contort my ankle at an odd angle, but I can get it in. Once standing, my toes feel like they are hitting the skates front wall and it’s uncomfortable.

My question is- Is this supposed to be how tight they are? I’m confident that the size I’ve measured is correct. Is it because it’s a men’s boot and I have a woman’s foot (I’ve read that they are different). I can ask a lady at our rink who measures, but all she does is measure the length and she only sells Jackson’s so I don’t think I’ll get a different answer.

(I don’t plan on skating in the mystiques btw, research has told me that much).

Also, any recommendations for skates are welcome however while I know the Jackson freestyles will be recommended for my weight (200lbs), it isn’t something that I can realistically afford. I do not plan on jumping at all (mid 30s and chronic issues) but just want to not keep stepping off the ice to rest my aching feet.

Found a kitten, have a couple questions

Found this little guy outside last night. We have a lot of strays in the area (I have a colony in my backyard, they’re all fixed so this isn’t theirs).

He looks pretty healthy, and I’m guessing he is about 5-6 weeks old as he walks well, has his canines and is climbing the small cage we have him in.

We did not see any fleas on his ears or genital area, but when scraping the base of his tail we did find some debris that may be flea poop. We gave him a bath with dawn dish soap and he is SO much cleaner, the water was brown! (I was wondering if he was someone’s escaped pet but now i don’t think so). When scraping him I get barely anything at all now.

My questions are- how old do you think this baby is? Should I give him another bath tomorrow to make sure everything is dead? I have two senior cats I don’t want to expose to fleas so I’m being extra careful.
