Benji has had these toys since he was a puppy, just a noisy pig and a scrunchie toy. Every day he will gently pick them both up, walk around the room crying. After a few minutes he will gently place them down on the floor and then leave them... 🤷
I started my Triathlon journey last year when some friends persuaded me to join them in a Sprint.
I run a lot, did "some" cycling in the past and absolutely no freestyle swimming experience and in my early 40's.
Last year I picked up an old hybrid bike to give this Triathlon thing ago, that was fine, just practiced the distanced I needed which was 24k on the bike.
Eventually realising the bike was way too big for me!
Swimming was terrible last year in Jan, couldn't do 33m (length of the pool where I train) without almost dying.
Running, all good just carry on with that training.
In short for last year, taught myself to swim freestyle and could cycle the distance.
Did the 400m swim in 8 minutes, the 24k bike in 54 minutes and a terrible 6.4k run in 38 minutes as my calves were cramping from either the oversized bike or lack of electrolytes.
Total time of 1:40.
Then I fell in love with the sport.
Got myself a proper road bike which I love.
Signed up and did my first Olympic Distance in Aug last year and despite the weather being horrific and the lake moving around like the sea I loved it!
Completed that in 2:39
Did another Sprint in Oct which, despite the wind, was another great experience.
Come this year, signed up for the same Sprint that I started with and boy was it awesome!
(400m pool swim, 24k bike, 6.4k run)
Swim in 7 minutes.
Bike I surprised myself with a time of 43 minutes, did my best ever average speed of 33.5kph.
Run was great at 29 minutes.
Total time of 1:22
Came 23rd overall out of 274 and 4th in my age out of 27.
Got another sprint at the start of June to get me ready for my first 70.3 distance in the UK Lake District area. Absolutely can't wait!
