sociology passed @ 75!!!

back again, and with a very familiar score!

background: rising college freshman; i took a media theory class at my state flagship as part of pseo so i am familiar with people like erving goffman and some other aspects of sociology as they pertain to modern digital media. i also took ap human geo a couple years ago so i recognised a lot of the terms and intimately knew things like the demographic transition model and random human geo trivia which is probably the only reason i scored high

i didn't really study for this one. to be honest, i heard it was really easy and kinda just didn't bother to take any practice tests until literally the morning of my 10am test and listened to a youtube lecture of the most famous sociologists on the way to the test center..

thankfully the test was a lot easier than the petersons practice test i took, i agree with everyone that it is perfectly passable with minimal study. perhaps just run a quizlet of comte, marx, cooley, talcott, the others i can't name right now, etc., and you will be fine with some decent test taking skills.

i have a week off now because i am working 7 days in a row at kind of awkward times but after that it is macroeconomics! excited for that one as i already have taken a college macro course that just wasn't accepted by my 4 year so this is a bit of a grudge match for me as they for some reason take the clep but not the cc course i took.

analyzing and interpreting lit! passed at 75!

first clep test, kinda took it on a whim. very happy with this score and it knocks out a graduation requirement for me.

for background i am a rising college freshman and i have historically done quite well on reading comprehension tests, my sat ebrw was 790.

i prepped among other things with a quizlet for literature / prose terms although being familiar with prefixes for numbers was more than enough to get through the 3 meter questions that showed up and literally every question about literary devices had personification as the answer so that time wasn’t really well spent.

what helped the most was simply taking 3-4 practice tests to get myself familiar with the style of the test and reminding myself to READ THE TEXT. THE WHOLE THING. the texts aren’t that long and generally make sense if you read through the whole thing even if you lose what the author is talking about at some points. you also have a lot of time: on the real thing i found myself at the last question with about 40 minutes to spare, and had 30 by the time i had reviewed all the questions, so despite the intimidating questions/time ratio this is actually quite a nicely paced test. in my opinion most questions aren’t like other reading comprehension tests where you can get away with reading just the snippet the question is asking about, besides, knowing the whole thing helps you place that snippet in context which makes it easier to understand and pick out the correct answer. read the question first, then read the whole text, then answer the question, then answer all subsequent questions by circling back to that point in the text.

for study resources my library had access to learningexpress which was quite nice. i also bought petersons since i intend to take a couple more tests in the coming weeks however i was not impressed by those tests as the questions sometimes contained grammatical errors, with one question asking to name a specific author based on their unattributed poem, which isn’t something you need to know. my range of practice scores out of 80 was 52-65 which were not really a good representation of how i did on the real thing, i suspect that the practice tests i took were more difficult than the real test and i didn’t really review my answers on them which probably didn’t help either.

overall very happy with the experience aside from being patted down when i entered the testing center (like wtf??? it’s not that deep), and i am excited to take sociology next week!
